Temporary Building

We now have a temporary building on site!  This means we are now able to run all our section meetings in our Ormiston grounds and are able to welcome back many of our tenants.

We hope to only need the temporary building for 6 months or so with plans now well underway to have the new building finished in the second half of 2019.

If you are interested in hiring the building contact us on hall.hire@clevelandscouts.org.au

New Flag Pole

We have our flag pole now erected in it’s new position ready for the 2019 Scouting year.

It has had some additional tie off points for the halyards added, a fresh coat of marine polyurethane paint and 7 new marine grade halyards installed.

Hopefully its all good for the next 20 or so years!

Get ready for 2019!

Hi Scouts and Parents

Firstly let me introduce myself for those I have not yet managed to meet.  I have recently taken the Group Leader role from our District Leader, Paul Tuckwood.  Whilst I am new to Cleveland, my Scouting background is 10 years as Group Leader at Indooroopilly Scout Group and occasional leader in Joeys, Cubs and Venturers.  I was also District Adventurous Activities leader in Tyakunda (western Brisbane).  It is a privilege to join the dedicated and very experienced Cleveland team.

We are starting to plan for the 2019 Scouting year and need some assistance.  We do not currently have a Joey Scout Leader and the Scout section needs some help.  We consider any section without 4 leaders to be stressed.  We are also always looking for new leaders in Venturers and Cubs as well to ensure we always have sufficient leaders to run our activities safely.

Being a Scout leader is very rewarding – seeing the youth members enthusiastically learn new skills and have adventures with their mates canoeing, abseiling, camping, hiking, sailing, flying … is something you can be part of.

If you (or a partner / neighbour / friend / older brother of the Scout etc)  have ever thought about joining the leadership team, we will provide all the training you need (for free) and also ensure that you will always be supported in your Scouting career (that is my primary role).  If you are thinking you might want to know more, please give me a call on (0407 238460) or reply to this e-mail and I will get back to you.  I will also try to catch up with you all at section meetings either this year or early next year – so .

If I don’t catch up with you this term, have a very happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Yours in Scouting

Andy Hall (Dingo)

We are moving our flag pole!

We have completed phase 1 of the flag pole relocation with the new flag pole  base cemented in the ground.

A big thank you to Claymore Contractors & Landscaping who dropped in early and dug the hole for us for free!

If you need any work done around your house – return the favour and use Claymore… https://www.claymorecontractors.com.au/

We will aim to give the flagpole a reno over the Christmas holidays and get it in its new home ready for the start of term 1 2019.

Cleveland site is almost ready for section meetings

A big thank you to those who were able to make it down to the Cleveland Den on Saturday.
We would particularly like to thank Allan Penniket (Cub River’s Dad) for installing the sheet iron wall to secure the covered area and Mark Lambly (Scout Chases Dad) for painting the girls toilet.

We also saw a big day from Venturer Charlie Fairbairn and Scout Matthew Ross who spent all day helping Julie and Tom (with some other parents and leaders who came and went over the course of the day) getting shelving installed in the container and loaded with gear.

We also now have power reconnected to the toilets and new lights under the covered area.

Unfortunately we did not get through all the jobs on our list….

We still have to remove the shelving from the Q-Store, move some furniture into the Q-Store to make it a usable space, replace the door on the girls toilet and install some security lighting before we can declare the site fully open for business.
